Death Valley 2011
In March we spent a week in Death Valley. We didn't get the spectacular sunsets we were hoping for, nor the flowers, but it was a very nice visit, and we took 2300 photos. We'll definitely go back again.
First view of the playa that is the Racetrack, after 25 miles of washboard dirt road.
The information sign said:
"Fine mud and slit, eroded from the surrounding mountain, compose the playa. Water washes across the playa, suspending the sediments in a shallow, temporary lake. The particles then settle evenly over the lake bottom, maintaining a level surface as the water evaporates. This playa is called 'The Racetrack' because of its famous moving rocks."
