06/22/09 - This photo is what I was seeing as Dennis took my photo. (see yesterday's post). The falls is called Tunnel Falls. It was named because a tunnel was blasted behind the falls "so the Eagle Creek Trail could pass through the otherwise insurmountable canyon."
If you follow the hikers, they are entering the tunnel, then with your eye, draw a level line across the falls where you will see the black tunnel opening on the other side.
The drop is about 60 feet to the splash pool below. The trail is about 3 feet wide and if you look closely you can see the cable hand rail that I had a hand on as I passed through this section.
The greens were such a beautiful lush color, the roar of the water was quite a thrill and the view was breathtaking.
